The sculpture dating 1830,  is the work of the sculptor from Serra San Bruno, Vincenzo Zaffino.  It was placed on the main wooden altar in the cathedral by the will of the archbishop Bruno Tedeschi, who was also from Serra San Bruno himself. The sculpture was removed by archbishop Pietro Cilento, when he replaced the wooden altar with a new marble one
