SAINT NILO RECEIVING THE BLESSING FROM THE CRUCIFIX
The canvas was painted by Michele Capobianco , painter from Vitulano, in 1904. The painting is connected to the frescoes by Domenichino in Grottaferrata. The scene was inspired by the ‘Bios’ ( biography) of saint Nilo describing the moment of temptation and the blessing of the Crucifix after the heart-felt prayer of the saint: Have mercy on me, oh Lord, and please bless thy servant. After having pronounced these words Christ himself appeared to the saint, blessing him three times, thus saving him from the temptation
