The liturgical use of the mitre goes back to the X century. It was used in Rome in the first place, and then in the whole West around XI century. It was used by archbishops . the mitre on exhibit belonged to Monsignor Giovanni Rizzo, archbishop of Rossano from 1949 to 1971
