The Restoration Of The Codex
On June 2012, the Codex Purpureus Rossanensis
was moved to the central institute for restoration and preservation of archive and documentary heritage in Rome (ICRCPAL)
The project was conducted in synergy with the diocesan museum, the office of cultural heritage and the local superintendence to verify the state of conservation of the manuscript, which aside from being a very fragile and old documentary heritage, suffered in the past, of invasive restoration works, at the beginning of the XX c.
A series of studies and analysis have been conducted in the scientific laboratories of the ICRCPAL
This long cycle of researches gave a wide and detailed knowledge on the conservation and further restoration of the Codex.
The opportunity to apply, on such an important documentary heritage, diagnostic and non-invasive techniques, gave a lot of interesting information about the history of the materials.
In the diocesan museum of the Codex of Rossano, through a special multimedia device, visitors can read technical information and see photographical material on the precious manuscript.
